Hot Snitzel Turns Up The Heat

Inglis graduates continued their strength at Queensland’s Winter Racing Carnival, winning a Group 1, a Group 2 and two Listed races.

Hot Snitzel dominated in the Group 1 BTC Cup defeating Godolphin sprinter Knoydart and the favourite Our Boy Malachi at Doomben. A $60,000 purchase from the 2010 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale for Triple Crown Syndications, Hot Snitzel (Snitzel x Flames Of Paris) was bred by Arrowfield Stud and consigned under their Bellerive Stud banner. The gelding, that has now taken his earnings past $1,200,000, was skilfully steered home by Blake Shinn for Peter and Paul Snowden, marking the jockey's first Group 1 win for the stable.

“When you’re hot, you’re hot,” said Shinn.

“I was so impressed by this horse’s enthusiasm. Seven-years-old and gee he tried so hard, it was fantastic,” Shinn said.

Peter Snowden was pleased with the performance of both horse and rider and was quick to credit Shinn’s expertise, saying "I thought he would run well but I then thought these horses would be a touch too quick for him. It was a brilliant ride, it was the difference between winning and losing."

The Group 2 SAJC Euclase Stakes went to Lee and Anthony Freedman-trained colt Nicoscene. Originally sold as a weanling at the Inglis Broodmare and Weanling Sale for $23,000 from the draft of Sefton Park, the now three-year-old was pinhooked by Musk Creek Farm and sold at the 2013 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale for $85,000. Nicoscene (Nicconi x Citiscene) has only continued to be an earner, amassing $347,000 across four wins from 12 starts for his group of owners.

Other stakes wins for Inglis graduates were Bewhatyouwannabe at Doomben and Magic Boy at Morphettville.

Bewhatyouwannabe (Fastnet Rock x Bella Corona) failed to meet his $60,000 reserve at the 2011 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale when offered from the draft of Widden Stud. Today the gelding took his earnings past $220,000 in the Listed BRC Members’ Handicap for local trainer Robert Heathcote.

Magic Boy (Magic Albert x Zeta) was a $44,000 purchase for his trainer Jon O’Connor from the draft of Kitchwin Hills at the 2013 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale. The three-year-old has now won over $166,000 after his Listed SAJC Adelaide Guineas win.
