Huge Hendricus celebrations at Warwick Farm

Celebrations were huge at Warwick Farm today, as the John O’Shea trained Hendricus powered past his rivals to take home the $100,000 Inglis Race Series Bonus attached to the Inglis Bonus Mile (1600m).

A large and happy group of owners were on hand to greet Hendricus back to the mounting yard, after the colt saluted at $4.80 over Fat Al and Falklands after opening at $13 earlier in the week.

A half-brother to stakes winning stablemate Warpath, HENDRICUS ($62,500 2010 Easter 2, 3c Mossman-Only Vanda) has netted $150,000 in Inglis Race Series Bonuses this year thanks to wins at Wagga Wagga and now Warwick Farm, almost three times his purchase price at Easter Session 2 when picked up by O’Shea.

Today’s win took O’Shea to the front in the running for the $50,000 Inglis Race Series Trainer Bonus with three wins (2 x Hendricus & 1 x Elite Falls), and the stable plans to plunder more Inglis Race Series riches throughout the next six months.

"He is a talented colt and he has a good race in him somewhere as I thought that was a pretty fair effort," O'Shea said.

“It was really rewarding because the horse has run well and there are a lovely group of owners who are extremely enthusiastic and it is a pleasure to come out and enjoy a day like today.

"I think he’ll have a little let up now and have some targets in the autumn.

"Both of them [Hendricus & Colorado Claire] are eligible for the Inglis Guineas at Scone and it’s just a matter of how we get there”, O’Shea indicated.

Bred by Twin Palms Stud, the son of Mossman has some way to go to match the feats of fellow Easter bargain Racing To Win ($40,000 Easter) who won over $3.6million under O'Shea, but Hendricus is certainly proving a shrewd investment for his delighted owners – T Gleason, V Dimitriadis, S Conroy, P Townsend, A Stefani, J Melick, Mrs J O'Hare, C Moraghan, Adrenaline Synd & Power Racing Synd.

The 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale will be held at Newmarket on April 10 to 12 next year.
