Inglis Babies aim up at Golden Rose

Impressive Rosehill wins by 2008 Inglis yearling graduates Rothesay and Schipper has connections eyeing off bigger targets in coming weeks.

ROTHESAY (P$140,000 2008 Easter, 2c Fastnet Rock- Schiaparelli) lived up to the promise he had shown trainer Gerald Ryan in producing a sparkling finish to run down the G3 placed Stryker.

Ryan feared the 1100m would be too short for Rothesay (pictured), but he was able to get down STRYKER ($600,000 Easter, 2c Fastnet Rock-Laetitia) in an ultra impressive performance.

Both colts are now likely to head towards the Group 1 Golden Rose.

Bred and raised at Sue Suduk’s Risdon Stud and offered for sale by Philippa Duncan Bloodstock, Rothesay is from the family of the 1990 Golden Slipper winner Canny Lad, with his second dam being the three times Group 1 winner Canny Lass.

In the following race, Nathan Tinkler and his Patinack Farm operation were celebrating the impressive win by the underrated SCHIPPER ($190,000 2008 Premier, 2f Elusive Quality-Victory River).

Sent out a $17 chance, the Jason Coyle trained filly made it two wins from as many attempts when finishing best over the 1100m journey.

Coyle said he had been taken by surprise with the improvement of Schipper, who is a half-sister to the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate winner Reactive.

Another Inglis graduate heading to the Golden Rose is the Tim Martin trained The Mikado, who scored an impressive win when picking up the $50,000 Inglis Bonus at Grafton on Thursday.

The next key race in the lead-up to the Golden Rose is the 1300m 3YO Quality at Rosehill on August 1 – a race that also carries a $100,000 Inglis Bonus for eligible graduates as part of the $2.5M Inglis Race Series.
