Inglis Bonus Makes Royal Randwick Race Richest In Australia On Saturday

24th Jul 2014

Australian Turf Club - Media Release - Thursday, 24 July 2014

The owners, trainers and jockeys of seven horses in one race at Royal Randwick on Saturday will compete for a massive bonus thanks to major Australian Turf Club sponsor Inglis, as the Sydney racing season sees its final Saturday meeting on the Kensington track.

Saturday will also feature gun young New Zealand hoop James McDonald’s bid to clinch his first Sydney jockeys premiership, with just two meetings left in the season, as he tries to overhaul leader Nash Rawiller.

McDonald, who has four rides on the eight-race card, needs one winner to tie with Rawiller and two to claim the title outright.

He rides Reigning ($9.50 TAB Fixed Odds) in the Carnival On Sale Welter, Poetic Debate ($31 TAB Fixed Odds) in the Inglis Bonus BM 75, I’m In The Money ($9 TAB Fixed Odds) in the TFE Great Weekends and Solemn ($16 TAB Fixed Odds) in the TAB Rewards BM 85.

The Inglis Bonus Handicap, race five over 1400m for three year olds, features an extra $100,000 “first past the post’’ bonus for any horse offered at one of the many Inglis yearling sales held around the country each year and entered into the $5 million Inglis Race Series.

The seven runners eligible for the Inglis bonus are Forget Maybe ($14 TAB Fixed Odds) trained by Anthony Cummings on his home track, El Sasso ($23), Mineko ($9.50) and Zaba Zaba Doo ($31) from the Rosehill Gardens stables of Gerald Ryan, Poetic Debate $31), trained by Jenny Graham at Port Macquarie, Husswick ($31) from Rodney Northam’s Scone yard, and Royal Jackpot ($13), stabled at Matthew Dale’s Canberra base. Zaba Zaba Doo and Royal Jackpot will need an extra slice of luck as they are first and second emergencies in the race.

The horses range in purchase price from $6,500 to $300,000 and were bought at Inglis yearling sales in Sydney, Melbourne and Scone in 2012.

The $100,000 bonus on Saturday will go to the first of the eligible Inglis horses to finish in the race and means, with the addition of a BOBS bonus, one runner’s connections could receive a total of almost $170,000 if they won

Saturday also sees the second last week of the Australian Turf Club’s popular winter racing offers including the Super Saver - $45 of value for $20 when patrons pre-purchase via Ticketek at www.theraces.com.au

Each purchaser receives racecourse entry this Saturday, a standard drink voucher, a Vili’s Pie voucher, racebook and free entry to the next winter race meeting at Rosehill Gardens on August 2.
