Inglis Graduates Dominate World Rankings

The overnight release of the 2008 World Thoroughbred Rankings were not only a glowing endorsement of how highly regarded Australian horses now are, but also a great result for graduates of Inglis sales.

Australia has its greatest ever representation in the global rankings and from the 11 Australasian horses sold at public auction to be rated 117 or higher, nine are Inglis graduates.

These include representatives from each of the three major Inglis yearling sales, which will be held in February, March and April this year.

In addition to the 36 Australian trained horses in the rankings, another nine Australian-bred horses also made the list.

The Melbourne Premier Sale has vindicated its reputation as Australia's fastest growing sale with two of its representatives topping the world in their respective categories to head up the Australasian contingent.

SACRED KINGDOM ($200,000 2005 Premier, Encosta De Lago-Courtroom Sweetie) was the world's equal highest rated sprinter with a rating of 123.

WEEKEND HUSSLER ($80,000 2006 Premier, Hussonet-Weekend Beauty) was the highest rated 3YO Sprinter with a 122 figure.

The first of the Inglis 2009 sales is Sydney Classic, and it made its presence felt in 2008 via the deeds of WHOBEGOTYOU (P$17,500 2007 Classic, Street Cry-Temple Of Peace), joining the likes of fellow Classic graduates Choisir and Silent Witness in being recognised internationally.

Easter has enjoyed a remarkable 12 months and no less than four graduates rated 117 or better: RACING TO WIN ($40,000 2004 Easter, Encosta De Lago-Surrealist), MALDIVIAN ($195,000 2004 Easter, Zabeel-Shynzi), ALL SILENT (P$280,000 2005 Easter, Belong To Me-Lisheenowen) and G1 Hong Kong International Sprint winner INSPIRATION ($420,000 2005 Easter , Flying Spur-La Bamba).

Bargain buys POMPEII RULER (P$9000 2004 Autumn, Genuine-West With Night) and TAKEOVER TARGET ($1250 2003 Mixed, Celtic Swing-Shady Stream) round out the top nine Inglis entries on the list.

“In recent times connections have been more willing to take on international competition and it is fantastic that Australian horses are now getting the recognition they deserve,” Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster said.

“We take a lot of satisfaction in the fact we are the only auction house in this part of the world to sell Group 1 winners in each of Dubai, England, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Africa and Japan.

“These rankings are an outstanding endorsement of our sales and we are very proud of what our graduates and their owners and trainers have been able to achieve.”
