INGLIS MELBOURNE PREMIER SALE EXCELS

13th Feb 2008

The run of success this season on the track by the William Inglis & Son Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale graduates serves to vindicate why it is Australasia's most progressive sale. A recent tally of stakes winners has shown that the sale is the leading source this season of three-year-old stakes winners in Australia, highlighted in the past weeks by the exciting PLAYWRIGHT ($75,000), TURFFONTEIN ($70,000) and last weekend’s Tasmanian Derby winner, MEGA BOSS ($70,000) – who became the ninth individual three-year-old stakes winner this season. It is also the only sale to sell a Group 1 winning three-year-old this season and not just one but two in the shape of the classic winners WEEKEND HUSSLER ($80,000) and ARAPAHO MISS ($22,500).

While it has always had a well-earned reputation for selling quality horses at reasonable prices, the results over the past 12 months that include multi million dollar graduates Sacred Kingdom and Blutigeroo, show that the Premier Sale is much more than just a source of reasonably priced winners, it is a sale where top shelf horses can be found.

This year’s already impressive catalogue received an added boost on the weekend via the deeds of one of the highest represented sires in the catalogue, EXCEED AND EXCEL, one of the most exciting young stallions in the world at the present time.

There are no less than 20 Exceed And Excel’s catalogued for the Premier Sale including colts out the dual Group Two winner Arletty and brilliant stakes winner Shalt Not as well as fillies out of the Group Three winner Fuss, the Listed-placed Shaye Spice and Happy Empress.

Well represented in the catalogue is Danehill’s multiple Group One winning son Elvstroem who has 50 yearlings, many of these including Blue Gum Farm’s half sister to Lashed good enough to have joined the dozen he will have in The Australian Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney during April.

“There’s little doubt the racetrack success from this sale has come from the increased support by vendors with top quality yearlings in recent years, it’s a 'win-win' for buyers and sellers”, said Inglis Director of Victoria Peter Heagney.

The good news for buyers is that all of Australia's leading sires are well represented at the Premier Sale including Redoute's Choice(6), Encosta de Lago (9), Flying Spur (18), Red Ransom (8), Anabaa (12), Hussonet (23), Rock Of Gibraltar(8), Danzero (24), Danehill Dancer (7), Royal Academy (23), Testa Rossa (47), Bel Esprit (30), Elusive Quality(4) and Lonhro(2).

The Premier Sale commences at Oaklands Junction on March 2 and runs for four days. The catalogue is out or can be seen online at www.inglis.com.au
