Inglis Scone Challenge

10th May 2006

THIS weekend presents the final chance for would-be Inglis Scone Challenge contenders to secure their place in the $200,000 race run at Scone racecourse on May 19. With less than four days until final nominations are made, competition for a place in the final 14 is fierce.

At present over 30 would-be runners are vying for a spot in Australia’s richest country juvenile contest - the highlight of the Scone Cup Day support card.

A stunning second-placed effort by Ken Callaughan's Throne Inn in the first race at Rosehill last Saturday ensured the King Of Kings filly a runaway lead in the prizemoney based order of entry with winnings over $35,000.

Others well up the order of entry and reportedly on course for the race are Albert Stapleford’s Six Stitcher and Bill Farrow’s Dulcina, while Terry Robinson’s Vicadelsa was a very eyecatching third on her metropolitan debut at Randwick last week making her a definite starter.

Of those in action this weekend look out for Robert Robinson’s Jarshatom lining up in the first at Randwick having been scratched at Rosehill yesterday. The Bureaucracy gelding will need a first three finish to make the Scone Challenge line-up at this stage.

Kris Lees’ is banking on Sir Rivercorp to continue his run of success in Inglis races, following Absolutelyfabulous’s $500,000 Inglis Classic victory in February. The Dolphin Street gelding currently stands inside the top 14 but will have a prep run in the fourth race at Newcastle on Saturday. On the same card She’s All Grace, who currently stands just outside the prizemoney threshold takes her place in the opener to try and boost her winnings to the required level.

The race boasts dual stakeswinner Legendary Man as a past winner, while the Group 1 performer Ready As was runner-up last year.

Final nominations for the 2006 $200,000 Inglis Scone Challenge should be made to the Scone Race Club no later than 10am Monday, May 15, with final acceptances due in on Wednesday May 17.
