Inglis Stakes double at Kenilworth

The juvenile Group 3 Langerman Stakes trifecta was sealed by Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale graduates at Kenilworth in South Africa on Saturday. Table Bay made it three wins from four starts when he made a late surge to win by a head in a close finish over the Mike Bass trained favourite Our Mate Art with Newlands in third place a length and a quarter behind.

Table Bay and third placed Newlands are both trained by Joey Ramsden who saddled four runners in the race. After the race Ramsden commented ‘The Langerman is a race I especially enjoy winning, very well done and sincere thanks to Ingrid & Markus Jooste and Derek Brugman for their continued support’.

Table Bay (Redoute’s Choice x Gabriella (GB)) was bred by Raffles Dancers (NZ) and purchased by Mayfair Speculators from the draft of Henley Park, NZ at the 2015 Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

Registering her second win at Stakes level was the Brett Crawford trained 3YO filly Chevauchee (High Chaparral x Chevaleresse) who claimed the Ladies Mile, her third win from six starts, with her other three starts delivering second placings. Into the home straight she had some ground to make up and jockey Corne Orffer switched passage with the filly winning by 2L after being sent out favourite. She was purchased by C Roscoe, on behalf of owners Ridgemont Stud from the Supreme Thoroughbreds draft at the Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale. Chevauchee looks a promising future feature race filly.

At Turffontein, two-year-old Nicconi filly Red Pomegranate won well over 1600 metres by a length and a quarter at her second start for the Mike de Kock stable, for owners Mr & Mrs W Rippon and Mr and Mrs Chadha. Red Pomegranate was a Sydney Classic Yearling Sale purchase for Lionel Cohen from the Crowningstone draft and is the sixth winner from stakes-placed Hurricane Sky mare Zakuro, including Liancourt Rock, a half-brother by Fastnet Rock, a three time winner for Dean Kannemeyer.

‘We are hugely grateful to our loyal and longstanding South African clients and it is great to see them enjoying race track success. On behalf of the team at Inglis I congratulate all connections.’ commented Mark Webster, Inglis Managing Director.

Inglis graduates are again set to feature in South Africa’s biggest race day Greyville on Saturday, headlined by four Australian breds and three Inglis sold competitors in the July. Mac de Lago, Ten Gun Salute and The Conglomerate are all excellent chances and we wish them the best of luck in South Africa’s biggest race.
