Inglis Weanlings Triumphant

Inglis weanlings have enjoyed an excellent month and the trend continued today, as Yosei and Eramor led a dominant display on the Caulfield Thousand Guineas program by Inglis graduates.

In all, Inglis graduates won six of the eight races at Caulfield, highlighted by Yosei’s win in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas.

Earlier this month, Secret Admirer won the G1 Flight Stakes in Sydney and today YOSEI (P$14,500 2008 Great Southern Weanling, 3f Invincible Spirit-Fuji Fairy) completed the fillies Guineas double for graduates of Inglis sales.

Already a Group 1 winner of last season’s AJC Sires Produce Stakes, Yosei proved too strong for Heartsareforlove ($130,000 2009 Premier) in an all-Inglis quinella.

The Stuart Webb trained filly has now won five times for earnings topping $560,000.

Webb paid tribute the fillies owners John Pittard and Paul and Robert McClure for “sticking strong,” in particular Pittard, who bred the filly.

“He’s a terrific mate of a lot of years. We're all great friends. I couldn't pick a better person to win a race for,” Webb said.

ERAMOR ($30,000 2009 Australian Weanling & Breeding Stock Sale, 2f Stratum-Ramore) began her career in the best possible fashion when proving too good in the Debutants Stakes (1000m).

The filly was offered for sale by Edinglassie and secured by Joe O’Neill’s Prime Thoroughbreds. Trainer David Hayes pointed out the filly is now a bargain buy.

“She’s very professional and does everything right. I thought she'll be improved by the run quite a bit so she may be a nice one to follow for Flemington Cup Week in the fillies race,” Hayes said.

“Joe just valued it at a quarter of a million. I know he's a bit of an optimist, but look, she's got all of her racing ahead of her and she's a gorgeous filly. She's not big, but when she gallops she looks big which is always a good sign.”

Griffiths’ Run Continues

Fresh off a Group 1 win last month with Response, owners Barrie and Midge Griffiths celebrated more black type success with an Easter II mare today, when Royal Commands took out the Listed carsales.com.au Classic.

ROYAL COMMANDS ($37,000 Easter II, 4m Commands-Princess Renee) was one of just two yearlings Griffiths purchased from the inaugural Session II of the Easter Sale, with G1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes winner Response being the other.

She was purchased from the Parsons Creek Farm draft and becomes the 33rd stakes winner for Darley’s Commands. Her ability to handle the wet ground was no doubt helped by her pedigree, with her dam Princess Renee (Zabeel) being a half-sister to Bundy Lad, the gun Kiwi mudlark who won the 1992 Stutt Stakes on a heavy surface among eight wet track wins.

The Bart Cummings trained Faint Perfume will attempt to keep the Easter II run going when she runs in Saturday’s $2.5M Caulfield Cup.

$100K Bonus Secured

The rich Inglis Race Series moved to Caulfield today, with the Robbie Griffiths trained Spurcific securing an additional $100,000 for his win in the Rokk Ebony Cup.

SPURCIFIC ($40,000 2009 Premier, 3f Flying Spur-Exact) suffered a shock defeat as a $1.40 favourite in a Benalla maiden last time out, but picked the right day to show her best, winning over the 1000m.

Spurcific was offered for sale by Erinvale Thoroughbreds and was a fitting winner on the feature Caulfield program.

Her dam Exact is a half-sister to the Canny Lad mare My Juliet – the dam of 2005 G1 Thousand Guineas winner Mnemosyne.

The other Inglis winners today were impressive sprinter FASTER SON ($45,000 Scone, 4g Fastnet Rock-Sonata) who made it six wins in seven starts when taking the Mitty’s Cup, and Patinack Farm mare PREVENTABLE ($80,000 2008 Premier, 4m Anabaa-Avert) who is now the winner of her past four starts after leading throughout in the final event on the card.
