Scone Produces Martin’s Next Star

Star Thoroughbreds’ Denise Martin is no stranger to success with juvenile thoroughbreds, and her latest two-year-old star is emerging in Tasmania.

Trained by her brother in-law Barry Campbell, Chillout (Artie Schiller x Sparks Are Flying) kept his unbeaten record from two starts intact on Sunday flying home to win the TRC 2YO Autumn Plate over 1100m.

The son of Artie Schiller was a $16,000 purchase from the Robrick Lodge Thoroughbreds draft at last year’s HTBA Scone Yearling Sale, and was syndicated by Martin to Tasmanian owners, including Phil and Carmel Evans, who were present on Sunday to watch his victory.

“We only decided at the last minute to come to Hobart for the weekend and watch him run and I’m glad we did,” Carmel Evans said.

Barry Campbell is confident about Chillout’s potential, saying “I like this horse because he is a quick learner and he wants to be a racehorse. There is still improvement in him, so I think he has a bright future.”

“I will see how he comes through this race before making any firm decision but there is another one of these autumn feature races for him in Hobart in a fortnight over 1200m and that’s where he’ll go if he doesn’t head to the paddock,” Campbell said.

206 yearlings have been entered for the 2016 edition of the HTBA Scone Yearling Sale. Artie Schiller is one of 80 sires represented at the sale which will be held at White Park from 10.30am on Sunday 15 May.
