Scone sale expands to two days

The annual HTBA Scone Yearling Sale will this year be held over two days, May 14 and 15, complemented by the addition of a Weanling and Mixed Thoroughbred sale.

With over 300 horses already nominated for the yearling sale, the decision to expand provides clients an opportunity to sell their mixed stock during May, given there will be no designated Inglis mixed sale.

Lots 1-200 of the Yearling Sale will be selected and offered on Sunday May 14 while Lots 201-300 and the extra 100 Weanlings and mixed thoroughbreds will go through the ring on Monday May 15.

Arrowfield Stud and Emirates Park have already backed the expansion concept, committing 15 weanlings each to Day 2.

Inglis’ National Bloodstock Manager Jonathan D’Arcy said the decision to sell over two days rather than the traditional one was “a no brainer’’.

“Every year we turn away over 100 yearlings from Scone so this year we would like to offer our clients the opportunity to sell those yearlings in the proven marketplace of White Park,’’ D’Arcy said.

“All yearlings will be eligible for the $5million Inglis Race Series including the $100,000 Scone Inglis Challenge.

“Several breeders spoke to us recently about the need for a low-cost outlet for weanlings and broodmares and we are happy to complement day two of the Scone Yearling Sale by adding the Scone Weanling and Thoroughbred Sale to the calendar.

“With the entry fee just $300 plus GST, we expect many Hunter Valley breeders to take the opportunity to market their weanlings and broodmares at a fraction of the costs involved with going interstate with staff and horses.’’

Entries for the HTBA Scone Yearling Sale close on Friday March 3 while the entries for the Scone Weanling and Mixed Thoroughbred Sale will close on Friday March 31.
