Inglis graduate Shamus Award was crowned Australian Champion Three-Year-Old Colt or Gelding for the 2013/14 racing season at the Australian Racehorse of the Year Awards in Melbourne on Thursday evening.
Shamus Award (Snitzel x Sunset Express) joins fellow Inglis graduates Fastnet Rock, Racing To Win, Weekend Hussler and Whobegotyou as champions of their three-year-old years.
The outstanding colt became the first three-year-old ever to win the Cox Plate-Australian Guineas double. Shamus Award led all the way in Australia’s weight-for-age championship, the $3 million Gr.1 MVRC W.S. Cox Plate (2040m), then backed up in the autumn leading from start to finish in the Gr.1 VRC Australian Guineas (1600m) against the best of his age.
Bred by Bob Hannon of Ascot Park at Pitt Town NSW, Shamus Award was the most expensive colt sold in Session II of the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale when selling for $230,000 from the draft of Vinery Stud.
Shamus Award was trained by Danny O’Brien and raced to great success by long-time friends Sean Buckley and Viv Oldfield.
The champion entire is currently covering his first book of outstanding mares at Widden Stud at a service fee of $27,500.
