June Horse of the Month

10th Jul 2007

William Inglis & Son is immensely proud of its graduates who every month promote our name in winners circles around the globe.

This month we are delighted to recognise the achievements of

APERCU

Breeding: 2YO bay filly by Encosta de Lago ex Making Fey (NZ), by Zabeel
Vendor: Yarraman Park Stud as agent
Owners: Dr. Edmund and Mrs Belinda Bateman
Trainer: C. Conners

After Group One success in the QTC T.J. Smith Stakes over the mile, well-travelled 2YO filly Apercu selected herself as a worthy recipient of the William Inglis & Son Horse of the Month Award for June.

Bringing up Group One win 21 for William Inglis & Son for the 06/07 racing season, Apercu has been an extremely consistent in her race career so far. It was the filly’s second stakes win, scoring firstly in the Listed BTC Golden Stakes and then backing it up two starts later with her Group One triumph.

Astute conditioner Clarry Conners was sent to the 2006 William Inglis & Son Easter Yearling Sale on behalf of Dr Ed Bateman to purchase a number of yearlings to race. Eventually purchasing two fillies by leading sire Encosta de Lago, Dr Bateman has achieved considerable success with the pair already. Not only through the deeds of Apercu, but the other filly purchased is the stakes placed Moonboat.

From an exceptional black-type laden pedigree that includes Group One Derby winners Ivory’s Irish and Hit The Roof, dual Group One sprint sensation Brawny Spirit and international Group One winners Global News, Jokers Wild, Penny Gem and Alynda, Apercu’s residual value is a significant deal higher than the $470,000 outlayed when purchased as a yearling.

Dr Bateman amongst the action once again at this year’s William Inglis & Son Easter Yearling Sale, purchasing a further two Encosta de Lago fillies. Both from exceptional families, one is from a half-sister to the dam of Rock Of Gibraltar (IRE), while the other is a half-sister to Hong Kong Group One winner Scintillation and dual Group Two winner Shania Dane.

William Inglis & Son would like to congratulate the connections of Apercu for her Group One success and wish all concerned the best of luck for her future racing career.
