June Weanling And Thoroughbred Sale

31st May 2006

Lloyd Williams Racing Reduction

The 38-lot Lloyd Williams Racing reduction, a major part of the racehorse section at the upcoming June Thoroughbred Sale, is already attracting plenty of interest.

This is hardly surprising given the quality of horse on offer says Inglis Director Peter Heagney.

“It is worth remembering that the Hong Kong champion Vengeance Of Rain and the wonderful racemare Lashed were sold from the Williams Racing Stable,” he said.

"I've no doubt there will be some excellent value buying from this year's reduction draft. Prospective buyers can be confident that the horses will be well bred and well conformed as the William’s selection team at yearling sales are very particular and very professional,” he added.

Over half the consignment is unraced and without exception, impeccably well-bred.

There is a half-brother to the Grade 1 New Zealand 1,000 Guineas winner Seachange and a half-sister to the Group 2 winner Fooram, while other untapped stock includes sons of the QTC Oaks winner Royal Magic, the SAJC Oaks winner Leica Smile and the Champion 2YO Merlene, all by Zabeel.

An undoubted attraction among those already raced is Group 3 Easter Cup fourth Refute, a multiple winner, while the Listed placed Lancet, a son of Encosta De Lago, is sure to have plenty of admirers.

Other highlights include a half-brother to Group 1 Sydney Cup winner County Tyrone and a full-sister to the SAJC St Leger winner Thousand Veils.

Overseas Update

One of the most attractive broodmares in the sale enhanced her appeal yet further just as the catalogue was put to bed. Wood Nook Farm’s lot 798 is dam of the King’s Best three-year-old Best Alibi, runner-up in the Dante Stakes at York earlier this month, the most valuable Group 2 in the UK race calendar, and responsible for the last two Epsom Derby winners.

The Sadler’s Wells mare Chauncy Lane already boasts an excellent page, filled almost exclusively by her outstanding Group winning siblings Fourstars Allstar and Fourstardave. She is offered in foal to Red Ransom.

Pause for thought

Another to receive a last minute update was the Brief Truce mare Pause, offered by Teeley Assets as lot 600 in the Thoroughbred sale. The mare’s first foal, Grand Lodge filly Super Lacuna won the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet at the beginning of May.
