Local trainer takes out inaugural Inglis Plate

Local Warrnambool trainer Matthew Williams set out for the 2008 Inglis Autumn Yearling Sale twelve months ago to buy himself a horse for the inaugural $100,000 Inglis Plate.

WESTERN RAIDER ($16,000 2008 Autumn, 2c Danbird-Pylades) repaid his trainers astute planning to take home the $60,000 winners cheque plus trophies after the aptly named galloper won on debut under jockey Luke Nolan today.

The son of Danbird swept home strongly down the long Warrnambool straight to win the Plate from CHOILAINE ($3,000 2008 Autumn, 2f Choisir-Delaine) and HOLD THAT SONG ($26,000 2008 Autumn, 2c Hold That Tiger-Song Dynasty).

The recent 2009 Inglis Autumn Yearling Sale saw a 31% surge in gross on 2008 levels, and speaking from Warrnambool today Inglis Director Peter Heagney expects plenty of those buyers to take note of Williams’ success when deciding to pay up for next seasons lucrative Inglis Race Series.

Later on in the day, HISSING SID ($25,000 2006 Premier, 4g Golden Snake-Domitrix) completed a successful day for Inglis Graduates taking out the Listed Luxbet.com Warrnambool Cup, confirming his status as one of Australia's up and coming staying prospects.

The Bill & Symon Wilde trained gelding has taken his record to an impressive six wins and four placings from only thirteen starts, accumulating $289,000 in prizemoney for his elated group of owners.
