Melbourne December Thoroughbred Sale closes out 2012

Strong results were recorded at the 2012 Inglis Melbourne December Thoroughbred Sale at Oaklands today, with local and international buyers snapping up some great Australian bred prospects during the last sale for the year.

184 lots were sold at a strong clearance rate of 95 percent, taking the total traded on the day to $1,270,450. The median price was up 70 percent from last year, while the overall sale aggregate rose 15 percent.

Tried racehorses proved popular with buyers, with Friday’s top price of $87,000 recorded by stakes winning gelding Utah Saints (pictured) which was purchased by B Stanley of Victoria.

Darley’s offering were also highly sought after including Lyric (sold for $56,000), Boston Tea ($42,000), Spinmeister ($35,000) and Spatha ($27,000).

Edwards Elkington Racing snapped up two quality prospects from their previous owners in Hot Spin and They Call Me Bolt for $48,000 and $30,000 respectively.

All breeding and racing stock that passed in at the sale, including stakes winning entire Liveandletdie, are available for sale via the Inglis Make An Offer service.

“Today was a strong finish to the year. There was good demand in the tried horse market and some great buying completed in a softer broodmare section,” said Inglis Melbourne Director Peter Heagney.

“Our bloodstock team have worked tirelessly over the past five months to pull together some outstanding catalogues for next year’s Select Yearling Sales, which we look forward to getting stuck into starting with Sydney Classic in January,” Heagney said.
