ON PAR TOPS AT OAKLANDS

13th Dec 2007

A good crowd attended William Inglis & Son Ltd's 2 & 3 Year-Old Breeze Up & December Sale at Oaklands Junction on Friday. With so much variety in the sale it was always going to be an interesting day and so it proved.

The top-priced lot on the day was lot 113, the breeding prospect ON PAR, which sold for $120,000. The four-year-old half-sister to the Queensland Oaks (Gr 1) heroine Miss Minden and Craiglee Stakes winner and millionaire Pentastic would grace the paddocks of any stud so it was no surprise to see some keen activity on the Oamaru Stud offered mare.

Philip Campbell from Blue Gum Farm was determined to buy her however and On Par will now be domiciled in Euroa. “She is a half-sister to a classic winner by Danehill so she's ideal for her future mate,” he said, adding. “She has been purchased by a client of the farm and was bought with the intention of mating her with Elvstroem.”

Elvstroem is of course a multiple Group 1 winning son of Danehill whose first-crop of yearlings will sell in 2008 and are already winning rave reviews in the lead up to the Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

Miss Danehill's winning daughter ON THE BOARD (by Spectrum) sold immediately after On Par and she too bought a flurry of bids, eventually selling for $90,000 to the bid of Haunui Farm.

In the Breeze Up section of the catalogue, the top-price went to lot 55, by Europe's leading two-year-old sire Invincible Spirit. Offered by Eliza Park, the filly was purchased by B James for $67,500.

Racehorses were keenly sought after from far and wide and achieved an excellent clearance rate. Malcolm Ayoub from Western Australia was extremely active buying for clients in all part of the country including in the west and from the top end in Queensland.

“Under the circumstances it has been a successful sale,” said auctioneer and Victorian Director, Peter Heagney. “With a depleted breeze up section due to EI we still saw good competition across all categories and it is very pleasing to see support from Victorian breeders with the sale top-lot remaining in Victoria. We will look forward to selling her offspring in the future.”

The next sale at Oaklands Junction will be the Premier Yearling Sale, Part 1, over three days in March (2,3 & 4) with Part 2 selling on March 6. Catalogues for the sale are expected in early January and can be reserved by contacting the office on (03) 9333 1422.
