Ortensia turns in Premier performance in Galaxy

Ortensia rightfully joined the Group 1 winning club when finishing too powerfully to take The Galaxy at Randwick today.

ORTENSIA ($50,000 2007 Premier, 4m Testa Rossa-Aerate’s Pick) had only been sparingly tried in Group 1 races, but had shown herself to be one of Australia’s very best mares over the past two seasons.

She was a five times stakes winner going into today’s race and the handicapper set her a task with 56.5kg, but it mattered little, with the Tony Noonan trained mare overhauling her sprint rivals.

Ortensia was sold by Basinghall Farm and is now the winner of nine races, with today’s race taking her through the million dollar barrier.

The Galaxy is the 20th Group 1 race won by an Inglis graduate in Australia this season.

Ortensia highlighted a profitable day of stakes success for graduates of the Melbourne Premier Sale.

Earlier at Randwick, GOLDEN MILLENNIUM (P$12,500 2009 Premier, 2f Dubawi-Manyara) scored an upset victory in the Listed Keith Mackay Quality.

The Anthony Cummings trained filly is a graduate of the Segenhoe Stud draft.

In Adelaide, RED COLOSSUS ($100,000 2008 Premier, 3g Testa Rossa-Palace Glow) stretched his winning streak with another strong finishing burst in the Listed Chairman’s Stakes.

The Basinghall Farm graduate is now the winner of four races in eight starts for earnings approaching $150,000 for trainer Greg Eurell.

Buyers next get their opportunity to secure a yearling out of the Oaklands sales ring at this month’s Melbourne Autumn Yearling Sale to be held from April 22-23.
