Phoenix Set To Rise To Great Southern Sale Success

19th Jun 2007

Damian Gleeson’s Phoenix Broodmare Farm heads to this year’s William Inglis & Son Great Southern Sale with a draft of eight quality broodmares in foal to both proven stallions and also some very exciting prospects.

Lot 473

One of the first mares through the ring on Wednesday June 27 from Phoenix Broodmare Farm as agent will be the city winning Zabeel mare Oscar’s Pride (NZ) (Lot 473). In foal to Danehill’s (USA) Champion French 2YO Oratorio (IRE), the mare is a half-sister to the dual Group One winning sprinter Spanish Mix. The package is sure to appeal to broodmare owners looking to capitalise on the blood of Champions Zabeel and Danehill (USA).

Another of the draft sure to command plenty of attention is Lot 671, the eight time winning Royal Academy (USA) mare Aiko. Asian Incline, the multiple stakes winning dam of Aiko smashed the 1400m track record at Sandown when winning the Listed Barton Handicap, and then next up at WFA in the Group 1 C.F. Orr Stakes, she was beaten half a neck into second place by multiple Group 1 winner Primacy. In foal to leading 2YO sire Choisir at her first season at stud, the mare is a half-sister to the very promising stakes placed South African galloper Super Profit.

Lot 793

One of the most interesting offerings of the draft is Lot 793, the Dolphin Street (FR) mare Glitter Street. A half-sister to the impressive juvenile stakes winner Brilliance, as well as the stakes placed Trouble Man and Barbadian, Glitter Street is the only mare in the catalogue to be in foal to Danehill’s (USA) multiple Group One winner Fastnet Rock. Crowned Champion 3YO, mares in foal to the Coolmore sire sold up to $775,000 at the William Inglis & Son Broodmare Sale this year, while his weanlings made up to $370,000.

The trio of previously mentioned mares are all owned by the Sydney based Max and Joan Connery, who have made the decision to disperse their breeding stock, therefore all mares will be offered for genuine sale.

Phoenix Broodmare Farm as agent will also present Lot 766, the extremely well related Elsa. A half-sister to the Group Three winner and multiple Group One placed Melbourne galloper Emission, the mare comes from the family of Golden Slipper winners Rory’s Jester and Ha Ha. At her first season at stud Elsa is in foal to Tale Of The Cat’s (USA) multiple Group One winning son Lion Heart (USA).

Selling of broodmares will commence on Wednesday June 27 at 10:30am after two days selling over 450 impressive weanlings.
