Progeny of Inglis Broodmares Shine at the Valley

Danleigh and Avenue - both progeny of Inglis Broodmare graduates - shared the limelight with four times Premier stakes winner Carrara at last night's star-studded Moonee Valley meeting.

The Chris Waller trained Danleigh (Mujahid-Graceful Lily, by Dr Grace) added a second Group 1 triumph to his record when beating a crack field in the G1 Manikato Stakes.

He is now the winner of more than $1.3million.

Danleigh was bred and retained to race by Keith Leonard.

Leonard secured Danleigh's dam GRACEFUL LILY out of an Inglis Mixed Thoroughbred Sale in February of 2001 for the grand sum of $1300.

Danleigh is the second foal Leonard bred from the mare, who was offered for sale by Holbrook Thoroughbreds.

Victorian based Limerick Lane Thoroughbreds got the timing just right when they secured the Kenmare-Emancipation mare VIRAGE from the Segenhoe Stud draft at the 2003 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale for $200,000.

Two years later, Virage's Anabaa daughter Virage De Fortune (later, a then-record priced $3.4million Inglis Australian Broodmare purchase) emerged as one of the leading sprinters of her generation, going on to dual Group 1 success.

Limerick Lane's Gerry Ryan elected to replicate that mating in 2005 and retained the resultant filly foal to race. That filly now races as Avenue, who was a dominant winner of the Group 2 Champagne Stakes last night, confirming herself as one of the most valuable fillies in training.

In 2007, Limerick Lane bred an Encosta De Lago colt from the mare, who was sold through the Yarraman Park draft at this year's Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $600,000.

Meanwhile, CARRARA ($200,000 2008 Premier, 3c Elvstroem-Crystal Sprite) became the first Group winner for his illustrious sire Elvstroem when taking the G2 Bill Stutt Stakes (1600m) earlier in the night.

It was the fourth stakes win in his past six starts for the Tony Vasil trained colt, who fought bravely when challenged by Extra Zero in the straight.

With this month's $100,000 Inglis Race Series Bonus included, Carrara's earnings now top $500,000.

In keeping with the Inglis Broodmare theme, Carrara's dam CRYSTAL SPRITE was sold by Contract Racing to Jim Anderson for $65,000 at what is now known as Victoria's Great Southern Sale in 2005.
