Quality Weanlings In Demand

14th May 2005

The 2005 Select Weanling Sale was conducted at Newmarket on this winterish May day, with 175 weanlings selling at an average price of $15,642 and gross receipts of $2,737,350. The clearance rate was extremely strong with 90% of the weanlings changing hands.

Richard Johnston of Bylong Park (formerly Clearvale Stud) purchased the two top priced weanlings of the sale. Both fillies were offered by Coolmore Stud as agent and by their exciting young stallions in Rock of Gibraltar and Giant’s Causeway. Lot 122, the attractive bay filly by Rock of Gibraltar from the imported mare Enlightenment (USA), topped the sale at $220,000.

“I intend to race both fillies and all going to plan win some black type races and breed with them,” commented Richard.

Reg Inglis Managing Director was very happy with today’s results.

“Once again we are very pleased to see buyers from throughout Australia and in particular from New Zealand supporting this sale. There was very good interest in the top end of the market today, emphasising the demand for quality weanlings and the fact that 90% of the weanlings sold reflects the interest across the board,” commented Reg Inglis.
