Rick Hore-Lacy trained Chase The Rainbow defied the pattern at Moonee Valley tonight, coming from the rear to score an impressive win in the Group 2 MVRC Bill Stutt Stakes in Melbourne.

CHASE THE RAINBOW ($90,000 2010 Premier, 3c Dash For Cash-Illusional) settled at the back of the 1600m Group 2 event for three-year-olds and despite only a reasonable tempo throughout was able to reel off some quick final sectionals to run down leader Cute Emily and score by over a length at the post.

Trainer Rick Hore-Lacy has always had a huge opinion of the colt by Dash For Cash and was again full of praise for the exciting youngster.

“A very promising horse”, Hore-Lacy said after the win.

“It was tempting to ride him closer given the pattern tonight, but we told the stewards we wouldn’t change his riding style.

“He’ll go to the Guineas, then the mile and a quarter AAMI Vase back here, then onto the Derby”, Rick added.

Jockey Dean Yendall has ridden some handy horses in the past, but rates Chase The Rainbow at the top.

“I’d probably say at the moment he is best horse I have ever sat on” Yendall said.

“Hopefully he takes me places”.

Sold by Swettenham Stud at the 2010 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, Chase The Rainbow took his earnings to $180,000 with tonight’s victory, his third from just five starts.

Swettenham Stud, who stand Group 1 winning sire Dash For Cash and offered Black Caviar in their 2008 draft, will again bring a strong group of yearlings to the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale from February 27 to March 1 in 2012.
