Redzel goes back-to-back as Inglis grads quinella The Everest

Redzel created racing history at Randwick today, securing back-to-back wins in The Everest and cementing himself as one of Australia’s greatest ever sprinters.

In an Inglis graduates quinella, the defending Everest champion beat Easter star Trapeze Artist to become the second-highest prizemoney earner in Australian racing history.

Redzel was representing the Yulong Investments slot in The Everest.

Yulong representative Sam Fairgray described the result as “great for Australian racing’’.

“This is great for Australia, for Mr Zhang to have a success like this,’’ Fairgray said.

“He’s very committed to Australian racing and breeding. You’ll see a lot more of Yulong here for sure.

“Mr Zhang knows racing in Australia so well and he knew Redzel was a horse who not only had won the race last year but who handles all track conditions, and that probably at the end of the day was one of the major factors that got him home in the end, given this weather.''

Redzel was a $45,000 purchase for Marquee Stud at the 2013 Australian Broodmare & Weanling Sale, where he was offered by the PPB Advisory for Lee Fleming Thoroughbreds.

He is now raced by Triple Crown Syndications and trained by Peter & Paul Snowden.

“I can’t believe it,’’ Peter Snowden said.

“To win it once I thought we were lucky. To win it again it’s just unbelievable.

“I knew we had the horse. You watch the race, Kerrin [McEvoy] did a masterful ride, judged the pace perfectly and that last furlong was something special.’’

Inglis’ slot runner Santa Ana Lane worked home strongly to finish sixth.

“I thought he ran super, the track was just too wet for him,’’ Sam Freedman said.

“It’s been a fantastic ride for all the owners, Inglis have been great to us and great to deal with.

“Maybe we can be back here next year and do it all over again.’’

Inglis’ next sale is the Ready2Race Sale, at Riverside Stables from 11am on Monday.
