Samaready storms away with Moir

Blue Diamond winner Samaready dealt perennial Group 1 bridesmaid Buffering another heartache when she raced away with tonight’s Group 1 Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Samaready collected her second Group 1 more than 17 months after she claimed her first and overcome a series of setbacks.

And, in winning the Moir, Samaready relegated Buffering to his 10th Group 1 placing.

Trainer Mick Price praised Vinery Stud for allowing him the time to get Samaready fit and healthy and ready for the rigors of racing again.

Price said Peter Orton, manager of Vinery Stud, did a splendid job of supervising the recovery when Samaready hurt a hindquarter.

“I’m really glad we were left alone to make our decisions,” Price said.

“I thought it was a really brave, valiant win from the mare. She has come back as a four-year-old and with her runs spaced she will be back here for the Manikato.

“It is really great to see her physically look so well and run so well.”

Craig Newitt provided Samaready with a gem of a ride and the mare responded to explode when asked in the home straight.

Newitt described as “very special” the win by Samaready.

“She has been a very good filly and mare to me. She was pretty arrogant tonight, she won with a lot in hand.”

Samaready, $7, stormed clear to win by four lengths to Buffering, $3.50, with two and a quarter lengths to Le Bonsir, $26, third.

Robert Heathcote was gracious as always in defeat noting that Buffering was beaten by better horse.

“I’m starting to get used to this feeling, that’s so many Group 1 seconds,” Heathcote said.

“He was brave again, but he was beaten by a better horse on the night."

Bel Sprinter, $6.50, ruined his chances when he again bombed the start. The Jason Warren-trained horse ran on well to finish sixth. Damien Oliver said Bel Sprinter didn’t like the deteriorating ground.

Kerrin McEvoy said Epaulette didn’t appreciate the greasy conditions and it’s best to forget his seventh.
