September Horse of the Month

4th Oct 2007

William Inglis & Son is immensely proud of its graduates who every month promote our name in winners circles around the globe.

This month we are delighted to recognise the achievements of

ROC DE CAMBES

Breeding: 3YO bay colt by Red Ransom (USA) ex Fairy Lights (IRE), by Fairy King (USA)
Vendor: The Oaks Stud, New Zealand
Owner: Mrs Kazumi Yoshida
Trainer: Noriyuki Hori

Bred and raised at Dick Karreman’s The Oaks Stud in New Zealand, the Red Ransom (USA) colt made his sales debut at the 2006 William Inglis & Son Australian Easter Yearling Sale. Selling to prominent Japanese owner and breeder Mr Katsumi Yoshida for $180,000, the now unbeaten colt was named Roc de Cambes. A dual stakes winner in Japan, Roc de Cambes is a worthy recipient of the William Inglis & Son Horse of the Month award for September.

Opening his race day account over 1800m, which is commonplace in Japan, the Noriyuki Hori trained colt scored by 1¼ lengths at Hanshin. Having a brief let up before a dominant winning display over 2000m, Roc de Cambes dropped back to the 1800m of the Listed Fukushima Radio Nikkei Sho. Stepping out in his first attempt at black-type, the impressive looking half-brother to the Group One performed Our Roman Chariot, scored by 1½ lengths.

His most recent run occurred in the Listed Nakayama RF Radio Nippon Sho St. Lite Kinen over 2200m, where Roc de Cambes indicated his staying prowess with an easy 1¼ length victory, elevating him to one of the leading contenders for October’s Kikka Sho over 3000m at Kyoto racecourse.

Being southern hemisphere bred, Roc de Cambes is currently competing against horses that are effectively 6 months older than him, therefore his unbeaten race record to date highlights the significant merit in the ability of the Kazumi Yoshida owned galloper.

Having had much success in the Japanese racing arena with their graduates, William Inglis & Son pride themselves on the yearling selection criteria which results in strong, early maturing individuals, capable of successfully competing on the world stage.

William Inglis & Son would like to congratulate all concerned with Roc de Cambes and wish his connections all the best for his future racing and eventual stud career.
