RACING TO WIN

Breeding: 4yo gelding by Encosta de Lago ex Surrealist, by Kenny’s Best Pal
Vendor: Boscobel Stud
Owner: T. K. Stuckey & Ms P. Yan
Trainer: J. O’Shea

Although the recipient of the April Horse Of The Month, there is no horse in better form currently racing than the undeniable recipient of this month’s award - Racing To Win.

With the lightly raced grey only having 12 starts to date, winning 8 of them and finishing no further back than 2nd in the remainder, Racing To Win is every owner’s dream - the ultimate galloper!

Purchased from the 2004 Easter Yearling Sale by astute trainer John O’Shea for only $40,000, an amount now considered a bargain due to the deeds of this now triple Gr. 1 winner.

When last awarded the Horse of The Month honour, Racing To Win had just taken out the Gr. 1 double of the STC George Ryder Stakes and the AJC Doncaster Handicap in devastating fashion to highlight what we at William Inglis & Son knew all those months before when he was earmarked as the ‘pin up’ horse for our 2006 Easter campaign.

Returning from a winter spell, Racing To Win started first up in the Gr. 2 AJC Warwick Stakes, where although a narrow second, was not disgraced. Finishing behind him were 7 individual Gr. 1 winners, highlighting the quality of the field. Stepping out next in the Gr. 2 STC Theo Marks Stakes, he demoralised a quality field, greeting the judge 1.5 lengths ahead of his nearest rival in a performance that indicated he was deserving of being among the top W.S. Cox Plate favourites.

The time honoured Gr. 1 AJC George Main Stakes over the testing Randwick mile was to be the next start for the ever consistent son of Encosta de Lago. Jumping away a short priced favourite, at no stage did the race ever look out of his grasp. Strolling home to an impressive length victory in which he recorded a new race record of 1.33.75 that had trainer John O’Shea stating, “I think I’m compelled to run him in the Epsom now.”

His next start will be in Saturday’s Gr. 1 AJC Epsom Handicap (1600m), where he will carry 57kg and if the script goes to plan, another Gr.1 trophy will be added to the owner’s mantle piece. His ultimate aim this campaign is to take on the elite in the Australasian W.F.A .Championship, the W. S. Cox Plate, where he will be tried over the mile and a quarter for the first time, and if successful will be the first winner for his sire in the great race.

William Inglis & Son would like to wish the connections of Racing To Win the best of luck for his Cox Plate campaign and his future racing career.
