Smart Debut Win for Choisir Filly

The juvenile fillies event at Moonee Valley on Friday night went the way of promising Choisir filly Japhils, a $105,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the draft of Three Bridges Thoroughbreds.

Running in the colours of well-known owner Phil Sly and trained by Darren Weir, Japhils was sent out favourite from gate one with Craig Williams aboard and forged clear to win the 1000 metre dash by a length over Nicconi filly Euchre Star.

"It’s been a great month for the stable as that’s our 30th winner,” said Darren Weir.

"We’ll enjoy tonight and then I’ll talk to Phil Sly before we decide on where to go next with her.”

Japhils was a successful pinhook having been purchased by Paul Willetts as a weanling for $50,000 from the Southern Cross Breeders draft before being re-offered by Three Bridges Thoroughbreds at Inglis Premier.

Japhils is the second winner for Livonia (GB), a half-sister to stakes-winner Millstreet from the family of Group I winning fillies Give Thanks and Harayir.
