Stakes Success for Willy Jimmy

Breednet - Tara Madgwick - Saturday, 11 June 2011

Corumbene Stud have bred some great horses with Golden Slipper winner Sebring the star performer, but lesser light Willy Jimmy had his moment to shine on Saturday when taking out the Listed BRC Strawberry Road Handicap over 1600 metres.

Trained by Guy Walter for the Sportsbet Pty Ltd Syndicate, Willy Jimmy finished strongly to win his first Black Type event, his overall record now seven wins and five placings from 25 starts with prizemoney of $244,930.

A $230,000 purchase for his trainer from the 2007 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Willy Jimmy is a son of accomplished shuttle sire Dehere (USA) and is the first stakes-winner from former top class mare Hula Wonder, a winner of 13 races more than $460,000 highlighted by Group III wins in the VRC Rose of Kingston Stakes and MVRC Stocks Stakes.

Hula Wonder lost a foal by Stratum last spring and is back in foal to the same sire.

Willy Jimmy is the 68th stakes-winner for Dehere, who shuttled to Australia for a variety of studs and is now based permanently in Turkey.
