Stakes wins for Easter colts All Too Hard and Raceway

High profile Easter two-year-old colts All Too Hard and Raceway proved too good for their opposition at Flemington and Warwick Farm respectively today, adding valuable juvenile black type wins to their resumes.

Black Caviar’s little brother ALL TOO HARD ($1,025,000 2011 Easter, 2c Casino Prince-Helsinge) was on debut in the Listed VRC Talindert Stakes over the Flemington straight 1100m and after settling just off the speed the strapping colt showed a superior turn of foot to his rivals at the 300m mark to race away to a one and a half length victory over Liberty Rock and Timely Truce.

The finishing race time of 1:03.49 on the Dead 4 track was the quickest Talindert Stakes for a number of years, including those won by subsequent two-year-old Group One winners Star Witness and Miss Finland.

“There is always a fair bit of pressure on the horse and everyone is looking at him”, Wayne Hawkes said after the win.

The Casino Prince colt drew plenty of attention at the Australian Easter Yearling Sale last April where after a long battle in the Newmarket ring with Peter Moody and Neil Werrett was finally knocked down to Hawkes Racing for $1,025,000.

“We’ll go back to Sydney now and there are races like the [Group One] Sires and Champagne”, Hawkes added.

Makybe as agent for Gilgai Farm will offer Black Caviar and All Too Hard’s yearling half-sister by Redoute’s Choice at this year’s Australian Easter Yearling Sale as Lot 200

Golden Slipper favourite RACEWAY ($150,000 2011 Easter, 2c More Than Ready-Claws) then stepped out in the Listed ATC Canonbury Stakes at Warwick Farm and although the Gai Waterhouse colt again proceeded to do a few things wrong still proved too good for Shelford and Narcissus in the run to the line.

Carrying the same Star Thoroughbred colours, bred on the same More Than Ready / Flying Spur cross and by the same breeder, Corumbene Stud, as 2008 Golden Slipper winner Sebring, Raceway was only fairly out from the barriers but mustered enough pace to sit outside leader Shelford before prevailing in a tough head-to-head battle down the Warwick Farm straight.

Raceway is currently $6 favourite with TAB Sportsbet for the world’s richest two-year-old event, the Group One ATC Golden Slipper at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday April 7, a race that has a long connection with colts purchased from the Australian Easter Yearling Sale such as Raceway’s damsire Flying Spur.

Group One victories for All Too Hard and Raceway would secure lucrative stud careers for the entires as it did in recent years for fellow Easter colts Onemorenomore, Reaan, Nadeem, Bon Hoffa, Road To Rock and Wanted. All hoping to emulate the breeding barn deeds of Easter champions Flying Spur, Encosta de Lago, Exceed And Excel or Fastnet Rock.

The 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale will be held in Sydney on April 10 to 12.
