Stradbroke Winning Piranha Highlights Inglis Weanlings

Much deserved Group 1 winner Black Piranha put the focus firmly on the upcoming Inglis Australian Weanling and Breeding Stock Sale when breaking a frustrating sequence of seconds to claim the $1M Stradbroke at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

After finishing runner-up to Easter graduate Vision And Power in the George Ryder Stakes and Doncaster Mile in Sydney and then again to Apache Cat in the Doomben 10,000, the Con Karakatsanis trained son of Clang finally enjoyed his moment in the sun.

BLACK PIRANHA ($16,000 2004 Select Weanling, 5g Clang-Jazztrack) saluting in the Stradbroke gives Inglis graduates 23 Group 1 wins in Australia this season.

Offered for sale by Kanangra, Black Piranha was a successful pinhook for Kulani Park, who later sold him as a yearling for more than two and a half times his weanling purchase price.

The next opportunity to secure an Inglis weanling is at this month's Australian Weanling and Breeding Stock Sale, which will be held at Newmarket on June 25 and 26.

All of Australia's leading sires and some exciting newcomers will feature in the 290-strong weanling catalogue.

This sale will again feature the New Sire Showcase, with TVN filming selected progeny of first season stallions at 9.30am on Thursday June 25, prior to the commencement of the Breeding Stock session.

TVN will broadcast the Showcase live and repeat the program several times before the Weanling session commences on Friday June 26.

The Breeding Stock session is highlighted by the Johnson Family Dispersal and Makybe Annual Reduction, while a number of outstanding supplementary entries have also been received.

Supplementary entries for this sale are open until Friday, June 19.

Inglis is once again Australia's leading source of Group 1 winners this season. In addition to the 23 Group 1 races won in Australia, Inspiration (Hong Kong), Sacred Kingdom (Singapore), Tell A Tale (New Zealand) and Le Drakkar (South Africa) have won at the highest level internationally.

Inglis is also the leading source of stakes winners in Australia, with Black Piranha's Stradbroke win and other black type successes in both Brisbane and Adelaide pushing the tally beyond the 170 mark in 2008-09.

The Danny O'Brien trained KEANO ($450,000 2007 Easter, 3c Pins-O'Really) lived up to the promise he has shown in limited starts to date when exploding away with the Listed QTC Lightning.

His win continues the wonderful run of success for Waikato Stud graduates this season, which also include the Group 1 winning Easter graduates Vision And Power and Metal Bender.

Darley's Lonhro has had a string of impressive winners in recent months and the stallion was rewarded with stakes success at Morphettville when CUSTARD ($250,000 2008 Easter, 2f Lonhro-Serene Look) took out the Listed Oaklands Plate.

The filly appreciated the step up to 1500m, after running second to $400,000 Easter graduate Gibraltar Moon (Rock Of Gibraltar) at her previous two starts. Gibraltar Moon made it four wins on end when scoring at Flemington on Saturday.
