Surprise Stakes-Winner for Reset

Under-rated Darley sire Reset produced a new stakes-winner at Morphettville on Saturday when bargain purchase Goon Serpent upstaged her more fancied rivals to win the Group II SAJC Queen of the South Stakes beating top class performer Lady Lynette by more than a length.

A model of consistency, the David Jolly trained mare has won four races and placed four times from 10 starts earning more than $158,000 for connections, a fabulous return when you consider she was bought by her trainer for just$14,000 at the 2008 Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale.

Consigned for sale by Arrowfield Stud, Goon Serpent (pictured as a yearling) is the second foal and second winner for the Bluebird (USA) mare Capri Blue, a daughter of Group I WATC Derby winner Capricious Lass.

Capri Blue was bought by Durham Lodge at the 2007 Inglis Australian Easter Broodmare Sale for $80,000 and is now domiciled in Western Australia, her current yearling, a colt by Elvstroem making $32,000 at the Perth Magic Millions Sale this year when secured by John Chalmers Bloodstock.

Goon Serpent is the 11th stakes-winner for Reset and is his seventh in Australia this season.
