Under The Louvre Breaks Through In Stradbroke

A brilliant return to racing at Eagle Farm on Saturday saw a 20,077 strong crowd watch on as Inglis graduate Under The Louvre won the $1.5 million Group 1 BRC Stradbroke Handicap.

Decidedly talented 5yo entire Under the Louvre (Excellent Art x Barcelona Girl) turned the tables on Black Heart Bart to secure his first Group 1 win in the BRC Stradbroke Handicap over 1400m. Under The Louvre and Black Heart Bart fought it out for most of the straight but the last start Goodwood runner-up lifted on the line to get the bob.

Purchased from the draft of Kanangra, Scone at the 2012 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale for $50,000, Under The Louvre netted $1,000,000 in today’s victory for owners Mr R A E Lyons, Mr P D Harrison, Mr P N Kean, Mr G E Breen, Mr G L Smith, Mr J P Van Duuren and Tilda Syndicate.

Jockey Dwayne Dunn commented “His possible little nemesis is the 1400m but I just got into a lovely spot, mid-field with a bit of cover and had the opportunity to leave a bit of petrol in the tank, he’s a great horse who deserves to win his group 1 and I think these owners will be over the moon.”

The son of Excellent Art was bought and originally trained by Tony Vasil for Aquanita Racing. Transferred to fellow Aquanita trainer Robert Smerdon when Vasil was receiving treatment for ill-health, Under the Louvre had placed seven times at Group level before today’s elite level win.

Under The Louvre’s only other race going the clockwise direction was as a three-year-old in the Inglis Guineas at Scone where he finished eighth behind the likes of fellow Inglis graduates and now Group 1 winners Cosmic Endeavour and Chautauqua.
