Varenna Miss, Becerra, Royal Commands Highlight Upcoming Sale

Varenna Miss, Becerra and Royal Commands all provided some notable updates for this month’s Inglis Australian Weanling and Breeding Stock Sale with their respective performances today.

VARENNA MISS ($80,000 2009 Weanling and Breeding Stock Sale, 4m Redoute's Choice-Mica's Pride) emerged as a potential Stradbroke chance and definite Winter Stakes contender when overcoming a horror draw to convincingly win the Group 2 QTC Cup.

The Redoute’s Choice mare, who was sold by Twin Palms Stud as an unraced two-year-old at the sale, has been knocking on the door of a feature race win this season and gave Tony Noonan a second win in the race in three years, following Inglis Premier graduate Ortensia’s success in 2009.

Noonan hasn’t committed to a Stradbroke start, believing Varenna Miss will be even better next season, but he is starting to put her in the same class as Ortensia.

Classic graduate BECERRA (P$47,500 2009 Classic, 3f Al Maher-Possessed) ran the race of her life when second in the Group 1 Queensland Oaks.

Her effort provides an important pedigree update for this month’s sale.

Edinglassie Stud will offer a Rock Of Gibraltar three-quarter-brother to Becerra as LOT 209 in the weanling section of the sale.

Stakes winning mare ROYAL COMMANDS ($37,000 2008 Easter, 4m Commands-Princess Renee, by Zabeel) highlighted her presence at the Breeding Stock Sale when successful at Sandown today.

The Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra trained mare was a stakes winner during last year’s spring carnival and was rewarded for her recent consistency with a dominant win over 2100m.

Bred on the famous Danehill-Zabeel cross, she is now a three times winner of $150,000.

ROYAL COMMANDS is catalogued as Lot 335 and will be sold on the second day of the sale, June 23.

The Australian Weanling and Breeding Stock Sale will be held in Sydney over three days from June 22-24.
