Vinery Dispersal - In The Past

3rd Mar 2005

Leading Golden Slipper fancy Domesday is poised for further success this Saturday at Rosehill when he goes head to head with archrival Flying Pegasus in the STC Todman Stakes Gr 2.

Bred by Vinery Stud and purchased from the Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $420,00, Domesday is the first foal of In the Past (GB), a mare who is sure to be one of the highlights at the Vinery Dispersal on Sunday April 3rd at the famed “Newmarket” complex in Sydney.

“She is a big strong mare, very attractive with a real look of quality about her,” said Adam White of Vinery Stud.

“She was one of three mares we purchased from the 2000 Tattersalls December Sale and she has certainly done a great job for us producing some outstanding looking foals including her current yearling, a full brother to Domesday, who will be offered at Easter.”

In the Past (GB) has some impressive international bloodlines being by the ill-fated sire Zafonic, who is quickly making his mark as one of the most sought after broodmare sires in the world.

With his oldest progeny as a broodmare sire just five years of age, Zafonic is already sire of the dam of eight stakes-winners and with just eight of his daughters at stud in Australia, In the Past (GB) is a most desirable commodity indeed.

“She comes from a fabulous family, being a three-quarter sister-in-blood to champion European two and three year old Xaar, but if you go back a bit further in the pedigree you’ll see horses like Redoute’s Choice and Hurricane Sky, so that’s what really made her such an appealing proposition for us,” added White.

In the Past (GB) will be offered with a positive test to Domesday’s sire Red Ransom (USA).

Group Two winning three year old filly Trezevant, a $160,000 Easter purchase, is another Vinery Stud bred racehorse who will be seen in action at Rosehill tomorrow, when she takes on Group One company in the STC Coolmore Classic.

Her stakes-winning dam Tennessee Magic will also be offered at the Vinery Dispersal with the enviable produce record of five named foals, all winners.

“She has been a terrific producer and a few weeks back when Trezevant won the Group Two at Randwick, she actually had three winners for the week with Potter and Step Ahead also scoring up in Brisbane…amazing achievement,” said White.

“Tennessee Magic is a beautiful black mare, a typical Star Kingdom type by Bletchingly, you just can’t buy them anymore. Unfortunately she is not in foal, but her purchaser will have the perfect opportunity to get her covered again with a nice early service in the spring.”
