Vinery Dispersal - Mannington

10th Mar 2005

The upcoming Vinery Dispersal (Newmarket, Sunday April 3 rd) has generated great speculation and interest, with many astute judges tipping the sale will provide a new record price for a broodmare offered at public auction in Australia.

That record currently stands with former champion two year old Burst who fetched $900,000 at the 1996 Newhaven Stud Dispersal, also conducted at Newmarket by Inglis.

“There has been a tremendous amount of interest in Mannington and she would certainly be an outstanding acquisition for any stud in the world,” said Adam White of Vinery Stud.

“She is a magnificent mare, a Group winning daughter of Danehill from Golden Slipper winner Bint Marscay, in foal to Red Ransom. It’s nearly impossible to buy into this family, mares like Mannington just don’t come up for sale.”

Mannington was bred and raced by Vinery Stud, winning her first three starts as a two year old in devastating fashion before running third as a short priced favourite in the Group One Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield.

“She had no luck in that race from a wide barrier and later went on to run another Group One third in a Newmarket Handicap, so you know she was top class.”

Mannington’s first foal is the promising More Than Ready (USA) two year old Benicio, who opened his winning account with a four length romp at Bendigo last Sunday.

“He was an outstanding first foal, made $525,000 at Easter last year and is showing real promise in the Lee Freedman stable,” said White, who also made mention of her current weanling, a strong precocious filly by Fusaichi Pegasus (USA).

Mannington’s Group One winning half-sister Bollinger is at stud in North America where she recently produced a filly by champion US sire Gone West.

“With Bollinger and Bint Marscay both based in the US there is real potential for this great Australian family to gain international recognition,” added White.

Improving two year old Ready To Mombo gained valuable Black Type when finishing third in a Listed race at Caulfield last Saturday and his dam Miss Mombo Queen (USA) will be offered in the Vinery Dispersal.

“She is an attractive mare by leading international sire Kingmambo and is covered by Ready to Mombo’s sire More Than Ready,” said White.

Short ‘n’ Sweep, a lightly raced half-sister to smart filly Blizzardly could also be in for a pedigree update with Blizzardly due to contest the STC Magic Night Stakes Gr 2 at Rosehill tomorrow.

“Gai is apparently very happy with Blizzardly and we are looking forward to a good run from her on Saturday,” commented White.
