What an Extremely good Choice

Extreme Choice proved he is one of the world's leading three-year-old sprinters by upstaging the older horses and leading in an Inglis graduates quinella in Friday night’s Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) at The Valley.

Having his first start since an unlucky effort as favourite in the Golden Slipper in March, Extreme Choice showed a dazzling turn of foot in the short Moonee Valley home straight to beat a world-class field of sprinters.

In doing so, he became the first three-year-old to win the Weight For Age event at Group 1 level.

Extreme Choice (Not A Single Doubt x Extremely) was a $100,000 purchase from the 2015 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, having been selected by Luke Wilkinson for Mick Price Racing from the draft of Bell River Thoroughbreds.

He beat Heatherly (Lonhro x Dancing Heather), a $90,000 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale graduate.

Chautauqua – the reigning Champion Australian Sprinter and fellow Inglis graduate – finished fourth.

It’s been a family affair between Extreme Choice and Inglis.

His dam, Extremely, sold at the Inglis Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale in Sydney for $735,000 to Yulong Investments.

And his Smart Missile half-brother will be sold through an Inglis Yearling Sale in 2017 according to Segenhoe General Manager Peter O’Brien, much to the delight of Inglis National Bloodstock Director Jonathan D’Arcy.

“The colt has a great length of stride, is a well put together colt and we’re very much looking forward to continuing our association with this Group 1-winning family,’’ D’Arcy said.

It was a big night for Inglis graduates at The Valley on Friday, with Hey Doc winning the Group 2 Stutt Stakes (1600m).

The three year-old son of Duporth and Heyington Honey sold to McEvoy Mitchell Racing for $85,000 at the 2015 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale from Rosemount Stud.

Trainer Tony McEvoy will decide next week whether Hey Doc next contests the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) or Group 2 AAMI Vase (2040m) before a possible Victoria Derby assault.
