Widden Add Another Winner In Inglis Sprint

The inaugural $250,000 Inglis Sprint at Royal Randwick was won by Inglis Classic graduate Lady Sniper (Snippetson x Lady Titus) under the guidance of Jason Collett, taking her earnings to more than ten times her purchase price in fewer than ten starts.

The $20,000 purchase for Boomer Bloodstock was deep in the field for the majority of the race, where she as able to weave around the outside and gain good ground to finish ahead of Hellbent, for trainer Bjorn Baker.

“It’s a credit to Boomer, he bought her for $20,000 and just look at her now!” said Baker.

“I thought she was a standout in the ring today, I was pretty confident for the owners that we would be alright here and that we’d be right in the finish. We’ll send her for a break and bring her back in the autumn,” Baker said.

Lady Sniper was purchased as a weanling by Baddock Bloostock at the 2013 Inglis Australian Weanling Sale, and pinhooked through the draft of Widden Stud at the 2014 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, where Craig Rounsefell of Boomer Bloodstock International secured her.

“Her pedigree wasn't a standout but she was a really nice type, I thought I would have had to go a lot higher to secure her, but she went for a great price and she has come along in leaps and bounds since then,” said Rounsefell.

Lady Sniper has now won three and placed in four of nine career starts, and today’s win takes her earnings past $230,000. The filly also earned her trainer a pair of Swarovski Optik EL 42 Swarovision binoculars, and her jockey and managing owner were awarded some fantastic Antler luggage.

Widden Stud will offer a bumper draft of 41 lots at the 2016 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale. CLICK HERE to access the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale catalogue online, or request a catalogue by emailing catalogue@inglis.com.au or call Inglis Sydney on +61 2 9399 7999.
