Widden Win Race to Secure Wanted

Stallions - Michelle Cullen - Sunday, 21 February 2010

Widden Stud have announced the acquisition of high class three year-old colt Wanted, who finished fourth beaten less than a length, in the Group One MRC Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday afternoon.

"Wanted has been on the ‘most wanted’ list of sire prospects for some time now and we are delighted to have finalised his purchase late last night from Eddie Hayson, who will retain an interest in the colt when he embarks on a stud career at Widden at the end of his current campaign," said Antony Thompson of Widden Stud.

"Wanted is a horse with enormous talent, phenomenal good looks and is by a stallion in Fastnet Rock that is seen by many as a potential replacement for his legendary sire Danehill."

A son of leading second season sire Fastnet Rock from the stakes-winning Snippets mare Fragmentation, Wanted was purchased by Hayson for $800,000 as an Inglis Easter yearling and was the most expensive youngster from his sire’s first crop.

Winner of the Group Three AJC Kindergarten Stakes as a two year-old, Wanted has trained on at three to be among the best sprinters in the land with Group One runners-up efforts in the VRC Patinack Farm Classic, VRC Lightning Stakes and MVRC William Reid Stakes.

"We have considered many options for our horse, but are thrilled that he will go to Widden as he will have the ideal home and be given every opportunity to succeed as a stallion,” said Mick Fagan, Bloodstock Manager for Eddie Hayson.

"We have a huge belief in Wanted as a sire prospect for the future and look forward to a long and fruitful association with Widden Stud."
