William Inglis & Son Graduates Dominate HTBA Awards

16th May 2007

The annual Hunter Thoroughbred Breeders Awards Dinner was held last night as a precursor to what is expected to be a bumper days racing at the Scone Cup meeting tomorrow.

William Inglis & Son played an integral part in the awards ceremony with all possible awards going the way of its graduates.

Leading the charge was the William Inglis & Son Champion Sire Award which went to the Arrowfield Stud based FLYING SPUR (1994 Easter, $160,000). Currently holding what at this stage appears to be an unassailable lead on the sires table, the son of legendary sire Danehill (USA) has been represented by numerous Group One winners so far this season.

The Livestock Transport Champion First Season Sire Award was taken out by the dual Group One winner CHOISIR (2001 Classic, $55,000). On the eve of Royal Ascot carnival, we remember how devastating this son of Danehill Dancer (IRE) was when he took on the best sprinters the world had to offer.

Qasar Construction's Champion 3YO Award was a hotly contested event, but in the end it was Redoute's Choice's five time Group One winner MISS FINLAND (2005 Easter, $450,000) who scooped the prize. Dominant this season with four victories at the elite level, MISS FINLAND'S decisive victory was when she defeated a quality field in the VRC Oaks.

One of FLYING SPUR'S Group One winners this season, FORENSICS (2006 Easter, $900,000) was the recipient of the Hunter Animal Health Champion 2YO Award. Scoring in the STC Golden Slipper against the best 2YOs in the land, FORENSICS recorded three wins from only four career starts.

The Scone Veterinary Hospital Champion Broodmare Award went to CIRCLES OF GOLD (1993 Easter, $50,000). Dam of Group One winning half-brothers ELVSTROEM (2002 Easter, $330,000) and this season's AJC Doncaster Handicap winner Haradasun, CIRCLES OF GOLD was a Group One winner in her own right, defeating a high-class field in the AJC Oaks.

William Inglis & Son would also like to congratulate both Peter Keating for being honoured by the HTBA for Service to the Industry and Russ Lazarus who was awarded the Presidents' Award.
