The William Inglis & Son June Weanling and Thoroughbred Sale starts in Melbourne on Sunday 25th June. The two-day Weanling Sale is the largest of its kind ever to be conducted in Victoria offering 490 lots and will commence proceedings at Oaklands Junction at 10.30am.

Highlights of the Weanling Sale 25th & 26th June

One of the highlights of the catalogue is the exciting representation of Invincible Spirit who is currently leading the UK First Season Sires tables with 10 individual winners thus far. On offer are six weanlings by him catalogued as lot numbers 24, 29, 361, 265, 267 & 298 and two mares in foal to him in the mare section, lot numbers 634, 814. Noverre, currently 4th on the UK First Season Sires list, has two weanlings on offer catalogued as lot numbers 307 & 242.

An important update is lot 247 which is now a ¾ brother to recent stakes winner Astounded who won the QTC Douglas Wadley Handicap.

LLoyd Williams Reduction

The Lloyd William reduction will no doubt attract plenty of admirers if the outstanding success of previous sales is anything to go by. At the December 2002 sale leading Queensland trainer John Wallace purchased Chassis for $50,000 who won his  first 3 starts for his new trainer at Eagle Farm, Doomben and Toowoomba. He also purchased  Special Song for $50,000 who has now won over $158,000 including three at Eagle Farm, one at Doomben and was stakes placed in the Bernborough Stakes. At the 2003 sale the same trainer purchased Enthusiast for $50,000 who won eight of his next thirteen starts and over $250,000.

Other successful graduates include Civil winner of last year's Balaklava Cup and Terrace, purchased by Nick Moratis who won six city races for him including the listed Tattersall's Cup.

Updates to the Thoroughbred Sale 28th, 29th & 30th June

Included in the 40 supplementary entries for the sale is Pretty Penny, an Encosta de Lago mare who won five metropolitan races, two at Sandown, one at Caulfield and two at Moonee Valley. She was Group 3 placed at Caulfield in the MRC Cockram Stakes and has won over $203,000. The mare’s female family stems from one of the great Stockwell Stud families. Her grand-dam Tontina  is a sister to champion sprinter Tontonan. Pretty Penny will run at the VRC meeting at Bendigo on Friday before being sold on the following Friday, 30 June.
