Zedi Knight delivers plenty of Christmas cheer in Melbourne

Seven-year-old galloper Zedi Knight delivered plenty of Christmas cheer to his trainer Brendan McCarthy today in Melbourne when winning the days feature at Caulfield, the Listed MRC Café Terroni Christmas Stakes (1200m).

Zedi Knight was positioned up outside the speed by jockey Jamie Mott, showed his customary dash at the top of the Caulfield straight before holding off the late finish of Casabel to score by 1.75 lengths with Guru Bob back in third.

In collecting his 11th win, and third at stakes level, Zedi Knight ($35,000 2006 Premier, 7g Zeditave-Sly Sandra) took his career earnings past $550,000 for his owners Mr A J Beck, Mrs M A Beck, Mr D J Beck, Ms C A Beck & Mrs A M Luff.

The son of former Newhaven Park Stud resident stallion Zeditave was purchased by McCarthy at the 2006 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Chatswood Park Stud, who will bring 9 yearlings to next year’s Melbourne showcase on February 27 to March 1.

Earlier in the week at trackwork Zedi Knight gave McCarthy the indication that he was ready to put his best foot forward after a frustrating Spring carnival.

“He didn’t come up in the spring, he just never had any spark about him”, McCarthy said.

“He dropped his jockey on Friday and we knew that he was very well, when he does that sort of stuff he is usually felling pretty good.

“He has been a terrific horse for myself and the owners, we really love him and what he has done, he has given us some great thrills”, McCarthy added.

Zedi Knight is one of many top earning stakes horses sold by Seymour based Chatswood Stud, who now stand Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes winning Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale graduate Reward For Effort.
