Buyers took a liking to the pre-Christmas offerings at the 2014 Inglis Melbourne December Thoroughbred Sale snapping up 96% of the breeding and racing stock offered through the Oaklands ring.

“Quality racing stock are always in high demand and today we had a good class offering with four of the top five lots being geldings with racing potential,” said Inglis Melbourne Director Peter Heagney.

In total 156 lots were sold at an average of $9,357, up 35% on 2013. The median price of $4,500 was up 38% on the 2013 figure.

The top four priced lots were all sold from the ever popular Darley draft. Lot 98 Negociant (by Street Cry) provided the highest price when selling for $87,500 to a client of Inglis’.

Salanitri Racing picked up Lot 82 Howdah (by Exceed And Excel) and Lot 105 Yulalona (by Dubai Destination) for $66,000 and $60,000 respectively.

Rounding out Darley’s top four was Lot 90 Address (by Commands) which was purchased by T B Ooi of Malaysia for $60,000.

In all Darley’s 22 offerings were sold for $601,750, resulting in an average price of $27,352.

There was also plenty of great buying amongst the breeding stock at the 2014 December Sale.

Adrian Hall picked up young Group 3 placed mare Testa Reale (by Testa Rossa) with a Duke Of Marmalade filly at foot for $35,000 when offered as Lot 7.

Total gross receipts for the 2014 Inglis Melbourne December Thoroughbred Sale totalled $1,459,750.
