Goldman’s Colt Reveals A Dash Of Class

Inglis Classic graduate Hellbent (I Am Invincible x Volkaspray) rewarded the confidence of both the public and his young trainer Kurt Goldman today, when he showed an exceptional turn of foot to dominate the 15-strong field in the inaugural $250,000 Inglis Dash at Flemington over 1100m.

When jockey Dwayne Dunn asked for acceleration at the 400m mark, Hellbent was quick to oblige surging up the outside of the pack to hit the line ahead of fellow Classic graduates Mossin’ Around (Mossman x Rhythmic Affair) and Geoff (Beneteau x Granma Gertey).

“It was good to see the real Hellbent come out today,” said Goldman.

“It’s a thrill to win at Flemington. It’s our second time here, and this is a great stepping stone in my training career and hopefully we will just keep going onwards and upwards,” Goldman said.

Hellbent is no stranger to Inglis Race Series riches, running a close second to Lady Sniper (Snippetson x Lady Titus) in the Inglis Sprint at Randwick late last year. Today’s win has doubled the colt’s earnings to more than $270,000 for owners Mr Alan M Cardy, Mr M D Wiener, Mr P H Green, Mr J S Hilton and Poidevin Paradice Racing. His record now stands at three wins and two placings from just six starts, with Dunn confident there is much more to come in the colt’s future.

“He’s a lovely horse. I think he’ll be even better this time next year. He’ll be able to come back and contest more Flemington riches,” said Dunn.

“The Inglis Race Series is a great initiative with so many incentives. Hellbent is a testament to the horses that Inglis produce in their sales,” Dunn added.

Hellbent was a $95,000 purchase from the Dartbrook Downs draft at the 2014 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale for managing owner Alan Cardy. This astute buying was rewarded not only with prizemoney, but with some outstanding Antler Luggage for both Cardy and Dunn, while Goldman was gifted a pair of Swarovski Optik EL 42 Swarovision binoculars.

Goldman indicated that the colt’s next step would be a spell before another preparation in time for another Inglis Race Series event, the $400,000 Inglis Guineas during the Scone Cup Carnival in May.

The colt will then take aim at the Group 1 races during Brisbane’s Winter Carnival, which would see him join the ranks of Cosmic Endeavour and Sincero, both of which secured Brisbane Winter Carnival Group 1 wins following Inglis Guineas victories.

Hellbent’s dominance of the Flemington straight was reminiscent of fellow son of I Am Invincible Brazen Beau, which is also a graduate of the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
