A second consecutive successful day of action has guaranteed the 2017 Classic Yearling Sale will be the greatest edition the firm has ever conducted.

At the conclusion of Day 2, the sale’s gross of $27,848,000 had already eclipsed last year’s total of $27,043,000.

The average sits at $75,469, up 31% on last year’s final figures.

With a clearance rate of 87%, the vast majority of vendors are thrilled with the sale’s success to date.

Yarraman Park Stud is one of 50 vendors enjoying a 100% clearance rate, selling each of their 14 entries in the first two days.

They remain the leading vendor by aggregate ($1,477,500) while Tyreel Stud remains top of the averages at $198,667.

Unsurprisingly, popular Yarraman stallion I Am Invincible is the leading sire so far, selling all 19 of his entries at an average of $167,105.

The leading stallion by average (with three or more sales) is Vinery’s More Than Ready at $176,667.

Yarraman’s Harry Mitchell couldn’t be happier with the Classic results.

“Inglis do a great job in getting the people here to buy the horses,’’ Mitchell said.

“Classic has always been a great sale for us and this year is proving no different.’’

The depth of the buying bench at Newmarket the past 48 hours has been exceptional, highlighted by the fact there has been 124 different individual buyers of the 369 Lots sold so far.

Denise Martin’s Star Thoroughbreds/Chris Waller Racing is the leading buyer, spending $710,000 on six Lots.

Syndicators have been busy throughout the sale, with Darby Racing/de Burgh Equine and Triple Crown Syndications equal leading buyer by number of Lots, with seven apiece.

Inglis Digital’s online syndications site, www.getracing.com.au, is Australia’s number 1 site for buying racehorse shares, where many of the purchases of this Classic Sale will be available.

Another leading buyer was leading American Bloodstock Agent and breeze-up specialist Justin Casse who, in conjunction with Muskoka Farm, purchased four Lots for $425,000.

Casse is on his first visit to Classic and will offer all four horses at Inglis’ Ready2Race Sale at Oaklands in Melbourne on October 6.

Today’s top Lot was Lot 194, a Fastnet Rock x Sevruga filly offered by Coolmore Stud, for which leading owner Alan Bell Racing outlaid $310,000.

“I’m not a big filly buyer traditionally but I’ve got some colts at home now that I’ll need mares for in time so hopefully this one can run and justify the buy,’’ Bell said.

“She’s a very nice filly out of one of the great families that I’ve long wanted to be involved in. Her athleticism and overall quality stood out to me, she looks like a beautiful running type of filly.’’

The day’s top colt was Lot 241 (More Than Ready x Starwish), knocked down to top Queensland trainer Kelly Schweida for $300,000 from the Henley Park draft.

The colt is a half-brother to Deep Image, which has raced twice in Queensland for a second to Winning Rupert and a comfortable win.

“I have a soft spot for the More Than Readys, given I trained Better Than Ready, and I like Redoute’s Choice mares, so it made sense to me,’’ Schweida said.

“For me he was the colt of the sale so I’m glad to be taking him home.’’

Lots 451-600 have been catalogued for the third and final day of the sale, which will again start at 9am, an hour earlier than originally advertised.

The early start will allow clients to attend the sale and still be able to get to Randwick later in the afternoon for Apollo Stakes Day, which was transferred from Saturday due to the extreme heat.

Day 3 of the sale will again be broadcast live on Inglis Sale Day Live, plus Online Bidding and Make An Offer services will again be available.

All yearlings offered at the sale are eligible for entry into the $5million Inglis Race Series covering their 2YO, 3YO and 4YO racing seasons.
