26th Jun 2005
The strength of yesterday’s opening session of the 2005 June Weanling Sale continued today, with a total of 304 weanlings overall selling for a new record gross of $3,314,554 and a record average price of $10,903, up 15% on last year.
An excellent clearance rate of 90% clearly supports the trend this year for quality weanlings.
A record price for a weanling at this sale was set today when lot 312, an athletic bay colt by Encosta de Lago from Wide Screen., was keenly contested in the ring before being knocked down to Kulani Park Thoroughbreds for $155,000. Offered by Fulmen Park as agent, the colt is closely related to the ‘Leica’ family, including Nothin’ Leica Dane, Leica Western, Leica Smile and Leica Lover.
“He is a lovely walking horse that will hopefully carry himself as a yearling. In our opinion he is the type of horse everyone is looking for and Encosta de Lago has definitely done the job,” said an excited Chloe Latif.
