$15K Oaklands Purchase Wins Perth Cup

Melbourne Premier Sale graduate Lords Ransom continued his stellar form this summer when justifying favouritism to lead home a stable quinella in today’s $400,000 Group 2 Perth Cup (2400m).

Offered for sale by Erinvale Thoroughbreds, LORDS RANSOM ($15,000 2005 Premier, 6g Jeune-Palace Alice) took his record to nine wins in 18 starts for earnings of $700,000 when holding off the finishing burst of Ma Chienne to provide trainer Adam Durrant with a 1-2 finish in Perth’s most famous race.

Largo Lad ($75,000 2006 Easter) made good ground late to provide Inglis with a first and third finish in the 2400m feature.

A son of Jeune from the 10 times winning Palace Music mare Palace Alice, Lords Ransom was coming off a last start win in the G2 CB Cox Stakes (2100m) at the same venue. He indicated he was set for a big campaign when running a slashing first up fifth in the G1 Railway Stakes in November.

In completing back-to-back Group 2 successes, Lords Ransom lived up to the promise he showed in early 2008 when completing Listed wins in the Pinjarra and Bunbury Cups.

Lords Ransom is raced by prominent owners Bob and Sandra Peters, who had previously won the Perth Cup with Field Officer in 1993 and Crown Prosecutor in 2005.

With her son being sold for a bargain in 2005, Palace Alice herself was sold through the Oaklands ring in 2006 where she was knocked down for $26,000. She has since produced a full-sister to Lords Ransom and colts by Bel Esprit and Danehill Express.

The Perth Cup continues a stellar season for the Melbourne Premier Sale, whose graduates have been headed by the Group 1 winners Sacred Kingdom, Starspangledbanner and Turffontein.

Others to shine include outstanding three-year-olds Black Caviar, Carrara and Shamoline Warrior, along with the dominant Breeders’ Plate winner Run For Wilson.

The Premier flag had been flown earlier in the Ascot carnival by outstanding mare Ortensia, who took out the G2 Winterbottom Stakes.

The 2010 Melbourne Premier Sale is scheduled for March 1-4. The 724 lot catalogue is now online and can be viewed HERE

The first of the Inglis 2010 yearling sales is the Sydney Classic Sale, to be held at Newmarket on January 24 and 25.

The Perth Cup completed a productive day for stayers purchased out of Inglis Sales. Earlier at Randwick, RAINBOW STYLING ($300,000 2006 Easter, 5g Zabeel-Done That) notched his maiden stakes success when taking the Listed Tattersalls Club Cup (2000m).
