A spectacular brown colt by Redoute’s Choice from Tugela (USA) was sold tonight at Newmarket for $2.5 million to the Ingham family’s Woodlands Stud, bettering the previous Australian record price of $2.2 million set at this sale last year.
Listed as Lot 259, the colt was offered for sale by Arrowfield Stud as agent and is a three-quarter brother to dual Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva (GB), regarded as the finest staying mare in the world today.
“We thought he was the best horse here,” said Woodlands Stud, Bloodstock Manager, Trevor Lobb.
The superbly bred colt was the star attraction during the evening session in which a further 69 yearlings changed hands, bringing the overall gross to $53,208,000, with the average climbing to $215,417.
“For a young sire such as Redoute’s Choice, to produce an Australian record priced yearling in just his third crop is an unprecedented achievement,” said Inglis Managing Director, Reg Inglis.
