2005 Australian Select Broodmare Sale - Day 3 <br>Broodmares Break All Previous Records

The concluding session of the 2005 Australian Select Broodmare Sale continued to excite vendors and buyers today at Newmarket, when a further 210 horses sold for $10,778,250. The strength continued today bringing the overall gross to an amazing record $49,337,050, (up 84 % on previous best $26,875,800 in 2002) at a record average price of $80,092, with a super strong clearance rate of 87%.
“Following on from the success of the record breaking Australian Easter Yearling Sale, it is great to see a flow on effect at the broodmare sale. No one could have predicted the strength in the market during the past week at both sales, however I genuinely believe it is great for the Australian Breeding and Racing Industry,” commented a delighted Reg Inglis.
It has been well documented that Woodlands Stud were the leading buyers at last week’s Australian Easter Yearling Sale and they were back in action at the Australian Select Broodmare Sale, purchasing a total of 29 mares for $4,306,000. Woodlands Stud Bloodstock Manager Trevor Lobb was also very positive about the results of the yearling and broodmare sales: “It has been a very strong sale which is great for the industry. The main reason Woodlands Stud has been investing heavily in yearlings and broodmares is to diversify our bloodlines.”
The introduction of a Fillies and Mares in Training section proved very popular, with three of today’s top sellers being maiden mares.
