2006 Inglis December Thoroughbred Sale

A strong year of trading came to a healthy close today at the final William Inglis & Son auction for the year in Melbourne. The December Thoroughbred Sale concluded, with pleasing results this afternoon at Oaklands. The quality catalogue, comprising of broodmares, racehorses, yearlings and unbroken stock gave bidders a wide variety to choose from with plenty of value. The vendors satisfaction was clearly indicated in the impressive 96% clearance rate.

The numerous mares with foals at foot by various sires including El Moxie (USA), Bianconi (USA), Delago Brom, Court Of Jewels (NZ) and Al Maher proved to be very popular in today’s sale.

The dual stakes-placed Bianconi (USA) mare, Benko (Lot 81) offered on behalf of Lindsay Park Stud as agent proved to be the highlight of today’s offerings. The lightly raced mare recently recorded a fast finishing 2nd placing in the Gr 3 MVRC Inglis Mile on W.S. Cox Plate day, behind the impressive Valkyrie Diva. A winner of just under $150,000 in prize money, Benko went under the hammer for an impressive $170,000.

Emirates Park Victoria offered Lot 35, the well-related Secret Savings (USA) mare Kuthbaan. With an Al Maher foal at foot and an early September cover by El Moxie (USA) the mare achieved $42,500 in the ring.

Inglis Director, Peter Heagney said, “I am extremely pleased with today’s results and the 96% clearance rate reflected the vendors satisfaction also. The better quality broodmares sold very well and it was pleasing to see the confidence in our racing industry with the racing stock meeting good demand. It augurs well for the outstanding yearling sale catalogue we will offer buyers at the Premier Yearling Sale in March.
