2007 LINEUP – ANOTHER PREMIER EVENT

28th Feb 2007

The 2007 Inglis Premier Race, to be held at Caulfield this Saturday has again drawn a quality field for this rich juvenile event.

Open to Inglis graduates from the 2006 Premier and Autumn Yearling Sales in Melbourne, the $500,000 race is a tremendous precursor to the 2007 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale which commences at Oaklands Junction on Sunday 4 March and continues on Monday and Tuesday.

The quality of horse to rise from this race is clearly evidenced by the likes of Follow The Till and Catechuchu who fought out a thrilling finish to last year’s Inglis Premier Race.

Follow The Till, a General Nediym filly purchased by Robert Smerdon for $10,000, was a stakeswinner on debut and thrice stakes placed, including a great third behind Permaiscuous in the Listed William Crockett Stakes at Moonee Valley last time in.

Meanwhile, Catechuchu, a Catbird filly picked up by Mark Pilkington for $50,000, goes from strength to strength, defeating boom colt Haradasun to capture the Group Three Schweppes Cup at Caulfield last Saturday. Catechuchu has now pocketed over $450,000 for connections.

Based on the promise already shown by a number of Saturday’s Inglis Premier Race entries, it would be no surprise to see some more Follow The Tills and Catechuchus join the Premier honour roll.

The Greg Eurell trained Shrewd Rhythm, purchased by Len Whitta for $130,000 at last year’s Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, looks likely to start favourite after some encouraging lead ups, including a third behind Sleek Chassis in last week’s Group One Blue Diamond Stakes.

But he’s not likely to have it all his own way! Others who could easily give the $265,000 first prize a massive shake include the Graeme Rogerson Incumbent, who was second to the Blue Diamond winner in December; Lee Freedman’s Bel Esprit filly Belcentra, a last start runner up in the Group Three Blue Diamond Prelude; or Belcentra’s Hussonet stable mate, Brazen Hussy, who won on debut by a massive five and a half lengths at Pakenham in early February.

Furthermore, David Hayes again plays a strong hand in one of the nation’s leading juvenile events with four entries in a field of 19, including 3 emergencies.

It’s certainly shaping as a Premier event!
